Athlete Spotlight: Christa Palmquist

How did you find CrossFit Aestus?

I had left my old gym before having my son, joined a new one once I was cleared after having my son. I went to this new one for a couple of months but honestly just didn’t fit in with the people, it was just go in, workout, and leave no more no less. A couple good friends of mine kept telling me I need to come check out Aestus, it’s such an amazing gym, the people and the coaches are awesome, the head coach even wore a T-Rex costume one time! Lol This had me intrigued, I had heard of Aestus, seen them at a few comps but didn’t know anything else about it, so I figured what the hell and I already knew a few people there so why not. Called Sam up went in and talked with him, took a class, and haven’t stopped coming since! I had found my CrossFit home!

What is your favorite part of coming to CrossFit Aestus?

The camaraderie between the members. It doesn’t matter where your from, or where you’ve been you will always get a fist bump after you’ve laid everything you have out there on that workout floor! The community at Aestus is one of the strongest I’ve seen in the CrossFit community. Is there always an element of friendly competition, yes, but at the end of it we’ve all given our best effort together as a team!

What advice would you give to a new member?

It’s not always easy, but it is worth it! I look at CrossFit the same way I look at life, it will knock you down, challenge you, it will be a struggle. Struggle makes us better! It how we pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, how we overcome the challenges that our thrown our way that makes us grow as people and as athletes!

What has been your proudest fitness achievement?

The comeback! After having my son, I was 30lbs away from my prepregnancy weight, couldn’t do a pull-up anymore, barely do a few push-ups, and would get out of breath just walking up some stairs. I had a lot of work to do! But that’s what I did, I did the work! There were days I didn’t want to go, days where I didn’t want to do the wod, days where I just wanted to quit, but I kept on coming and kept getting better, stronger, and faster! I’ve comeback from several injuries, but this was my hardest comeback by far I honestly felt like I was at square one again. Now I’ve surpassed my prepregnancy weight, and then m a better CrossFit athlete than I’ve ever been!
What motivates or inspires you? To be a better me! Be a better mother, a better wife, a better athlete, a better person! This is no easy task, it requires hard work and grit each and every day, not only in the gym but outside as well.

What are your hobbies?

Movies! I love watching movies! I wake up take my son to daycare, workout, go to work, pick up from daycare, home dinner, bedtime for little man, parents dinner and then I finally get to sit down. After all that the last thing I want is a crazy hobby, so my husband and I love to watch movies.

Coach’s Comments: Christa is an incredible athlete. More than that, she’s is one of the best people we know. Kind, encouraging and has a smile for everyone she meets. The example she sets is not just in athletics, but also in character. Proud to have her as part of our family.
