February Spotlight Athlete–Jodi Hanes
Name: Jodi Hanes
Which class do you usually attend? 6:00 pm and Saturday’s partner WOD
Favorite WOD: Karen…who doesn’t love a good wall ball?!?!
Favorite Lift: It’s a tie between deadlift and back squat…both give me the booty I want and let me know that I can pick up my husband if I need to 😉
How long have you been CrossFitting? This time around, just over a year
What keeps you coming back? The people!!! I love coming to class and knowing that I will definitely laugh and get cheered on ‘til the very last rep.
How did you find CrossFit? My husband found a Groupon. He thought he was cute suggesting that I try it out, but I made him go with me.
How did you end up at CrossFit Aestus? Coach Sam…I met him on the dark side of the moon and followed him to the sunshine, love, and hard work that are Aestus.
What is your athletic background? NONE! Unless you count that time I was a cheerleader for wrestling, and I wouldn’t.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness? CrossFit has changed me for the better in every way imaginable. Physically, I am able to keep up with my children and constantly be on my feet at work without thinking twice. I also actually look forward to activities like bike-riding and have started challenging myself outside of Aestus (Tobacco Road Half, anyone?). Emotionally, I get stronger every time I train. It is literally my therapy. I am the healthiest and most athletically fit I have ever been because of CrossFit.
What is the One Thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? Compete and hold my own with my team
What motivates/inspires you? My children and my own health and happiness motivate me.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? Running both miles in Murph and finally getting T2B!!!
Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through CrossFit? I want to do an unassisted pull-up and full-on T2B in a WOD, but my long-term goal is to remain mobile and active.
What goals have you achieved in CrossFit? Physical and emotional strength, weight loss (30 pounds!), and overall good health
Hobbies/interests outside of CrossFit? There are hobbies other than CrossFit?
Tell me about your diet: I don’t ever tell myself that I can’t or shouldn’t eat or drink something. I usually choose to eat in a way that makes me feel good…healthy, high protein, smaller meals/snacks 5 times a day. Sometimes, I have a cheeseburger and fries…
Any advice for new members? Stick with it! It is hard, but the rewards are incredible. Also, remember that you are competing against yourself and nobody else. Do the best that YOU can. Push yourself to do more. Accept the “good job” fist bumps and cheers of encouragement; they are sincere and will help you through the tough days.
Coaches thoughts: Jodi has been with us for just over a year. Her physical changes have been amazing. She is stronger. She is crushing her goals and changing her body. Above that, she is changing as a person. She walks in ready to take on the work here at CFA. She has become a leader in our WODs. She encourages others to take on their challenges with an “If I can do it, so can you” attitude. We’re proud she’s part of our tribe.
